Fuckin Whatever may have a pretty casual band name, but their lineup is no joke. The group—which is composed of Taking Back Sunday vocalist Adam Lazzara and guitarist/vocalist John Nolan, Circa Survive singer Anthony Green, and Grouplove drummer Benjamin Homola—arose out of an impromptu 2016 jam session backstage on the Taste of Chaos tour. However, during the free time the members had during the pandemic they were able to conceptualize, record, and release a psychedelia-inspired self-titled EP that came out in June.

We sat down with Green, Lazzara, and Nolan to discuss the origins of the project, the way it reminded them of the expectation-free days of their nascent music careers, and how the future of Fuckin Whatever may include theater-inspired performances as well as an already-in-progress full-length. “[Fuckin Whatever has] been one of the more empowering projects I’ve ever been in involved in, so I don’t plan on wanting to stop doing it,” Lazzara explains at one point during our conversation. Personally, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the bands’ tie-dyed future.
