Last week, we announced that Best Coast would be playing our inaugural FLOODfest SXSW showcase, and now it appears that there will be a brand-new BC album to look forward to this spring as well. Today, the duo revealed the details about their upcoming third full-length album, California Nights including an album trailer/music video for the album’s title track. Best Coast also announced the first batch of spring tour dates supporting the release.
The video for “California Nights” is an atmospheric journey into the whimsical world of the Golden State from the deserts to the coast at twilight, featuring overlapped images of the band along with frontwoman Bethany Cosentino’s incredibly photogenic cat Snacks. Cosentino’s voice airily floats above Bobb Bruno’s garage-psych-surf guitar riffs within the track, immediately creating a relaxed and melodic experience for the listener.
Always the first to rep her home state, Cosentino recently described how California’s natural beauty inspired Best Coast’s upcoming album, and comforts her on a daily basis:
If you have ever lived in California, you know what nighttime here feels like. You know what the sky looks like when those epic sunsets begin, and you understand that feeling and the way things change when the sun finally sets. In LA, or maybe just personally to me, when the sun sets – I feel like there is a large sense of calmness in the air, and I feel like everything that happened to me prior in the day, whether crappy experiences or good ones, at night, it all goes away and I sink deep into this different kind of ‘world.’
With the band’s follow-up to 2012’s The Only Place set for a May release, Cosentino and Bobb Bruno are heading out on tour next month. Check out where you can see the duo (probably) playing a couple of new tunes below the album’s info.
