Angel Olsen Celebrates Karen Dalton with “Something on Your Mind” Cover

The cover and the original are available as a vinyl 7-inch via Light in the Attic.

Last year, folk icon Karen Dalton was celebrated with the documentary Karen Dalton: In My Own Time in which directors Robert Yapkowitz and Richard Peete pieced together her life after unearthing unseen material following a terrible 2018 fire that destroyed the remains of Dalton’s personal archive. The film also featured Nick Cave, Vanessa Carlton, and Angel Olsen recounting her influence. And today, the latter released a cover of Dalton’s “Something on Your Mind.”

“Something on My Mind” was first recorded in 1971 for Dalton’s second and final studio album In My Own Time. Later this spring, on March 25, Light in the Attic will release a 50th anniversary edition of that album, with Olsen’s cover holding us over until then. “[The song], for me, is about letting yourself face something that keeps setting you back,” Olsen said in a press statement. The recording is part of Light in the Attic’s cover series, which comes as a vinyl 7-inch that includes the original version as the B-side.
