Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen announced today his first-ever solo album, which is called You Belong There and will arrive April 8 via Warp Records. Grizzly Bear's last album Painted Ruins came out in 2017; so if you've been missing the lush, detailed poetics of that great band, then Rossen's forthcoming project is one to keep an eye on. Along with the announcement, we get the lead single titled "Shadow in the Frame."

The track opens with quick finger-plucked guitars that are then swooned by a pattering of percussion and a soft blanket of orchestral subtleties. "One at a time the lamps died," Rossen sings, "Left shapes in the dark I can’t describe / All us sightless creatures find our way." His magnetic vocals lead us through a shadowed world. Rossen's dive into solo artistry is an enticing whirlwind of world-building.

"My hope was to make a set of songs with a deeper connection to my actual life and with a longer view of music history," he said of the forthcoming music. "I’m not sure that’s what happened, but it’s what I was thinking about. Finishing this album was a major challenge but it has given me a new sense of possibility. I’m hoping I can hang onto that feeling long enough to keep making music and sharing it."
