The 156th anniversary of Juneteenth will arrive on June 19. The annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War has been celebrated by many African Americans since the late 1800s, yet it took 155 years for the US to finally recognize this significant date as a federal holiday. We have a long way to go in the fight against racial injustice, but we are grateful for progress. And we are excited to help celebrate this Juneteenth with two days of special programming on FLOOD FM on June 19 and 20.

We are honored that several of our favorite artists helped us curate 48 hours of classic hip-hop, soul, and R&B from the '80s, '90s, and beyond, along with special commentary from each curator that will be featured throughout the event. Tune in to FLOOD FM all day Sunday and Monday and let Robert Glasper, Tank and the Bangas, Derrick Hodge, The Suffers' Kam Franklin, SEB, Boulevards, Kenndog, Jayson Cash, Kah-Lo, Seratones' AJ Haynes, BLK ODYSSY, and Jahi Sundance take you on a flashback tour through the decades, spinning tracks from Sly and the Family Stone, Funkadelic, Prince, Public Enemy, D'Angelo, Mary J. Blige, OutKast, and many more.

As composer/music director Derrick Hodge—who will be conducting a 68-piece all-Black symphony orchestra for the Hollywood Bowl's Juneteenth event—explained to us, "I've got some artists on [my playlist] that was my soundtrack as a kid: Nas to Jay-Z to Ms. Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Tribe Called Quest, and the list goes on and on. They helped me find the beauty in my story and I hope y'all can feel that beauty when you are listening, kicking back, and celebrating Juneteenth, which is about empowering, motivating, and finding beauty, and walking in that power as African Americans."
