It doesn’t feel like it was too long ago that Allie Crow Buckley announced her debut EP, with a full-length arriving shortly thereafter. While she’s yet to reveal plans for any further releases, today the LA-based songwriter is sharing the news that she’s signed to Nettwerk Music Group’s ever-growing roster, along with unveiling a sweeping new song titled “Angel.” The epic pop single lands somewhere between the baroque and the spiritual, with Buckley’s vocals channeling the euphoria of new love. “This song is about the tenderness and vulnerability of new love,” she shares. “About getting swept up, or rather, carried away.”

With that spiritual element hard to ignore, the Jeanette Getrost–directed video the track arrives with was filmed at the Church of Mary Magdalene in the English countryside, with Buckley citing Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 Romeo and Juliet film adaptation as a visual reference point—a much more apt pairing for her music than Baz Luhrmann’s over-the-top ’90s take on the play.
