Lizzie Killian is yet another artist for whom the pandemic provided the silver lining of resuscitating her love for music and inspired a long-dormant songwriting impulse. “I almost thought I was done with music,” she shared earlier this year, “but now I feel like I'm rediscovering it all over again. After a five-year writer's block, I spent the early part of the pandemic on a long introspective journey of finding myself and my voice.”
The result is the self-titled debut EP from her new project Teens in Trouble, which arrived last month in the wake of early singles like “Decomposing” introducing the project as a playful, sunshine-y take on grunge of the same ilk as the music of Peach Kelli Pop. It’s this track she brought to a recent “Neighborhoods” session filmed in her hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, where she reimagines the single as a slowed-down acoustic number.
