Last Friday, Natalie Mering made a convincing argument for pushing music publications’ year-end coverage back to the actual end of the year: And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, her latest record as Weyes Blood, is a shoo-in on most of these best-of lists, with Mering expanding upon the ’70s-sourced chamber-pop and societal and environmental concern of 2019’s Titanic Rising—an acceptance of the widely acknowledged “new normal,” as she told us in our latest digital cover feature.
