For as long as they’ve been a unit, LA-based alt-rockers Liily have skirted the line of post-punk and dance-punk, with the former influence reigning supreme on 2021’s debut full-length TV or Not TV. But after hitting the road in support of that record, the band’s first release before embarking on their next chapter sounds more in line with the industrial dance sounds of their East Coast contemporaries Model/Actriz—maybe even with a bit of hair metal influence baked in.

“I guess you can say ‘Applause’ is our own take on a dance song and an exciting follow up to our first record, TV or Not TV,” the group shares of the single, which ties in thematically to their latest release. “It shows the gradual artistic growth inspired by our first year touring post-pandemic and the necessary performative and sonic shift we endured becoming a four-piece.”

With the promise of new music on the horizon via their new label home of Flush Records, as well as a string of West Coast tour dates alongside FIDLAR penciled in for February and March, stream the new single below.
