Last week, Lil Yachty revealed the album title and artwork for his next album, Let’s Start Here., without providing much more info on the project, let alone a single. The press release announcing the LP merely recounted the rapper’s recent extracurricular exploits, including a future feature film adaptation of the card game Uno and a forthcoming cryptocurrency forged in collaboration with Reese’s Puffs. I guess with those ventures in mind the fact that Let’s Start Here.—released today via Quality Control—is a full-on psych-rock odyssey rather than the confluence of Southern rap, SoundCloud rap, and trap the artist has built his reputation on isn’t all that weird.

Half leaning into the recent Tame Impala–aissance (the two have a bit of a history together) and half pulling from the vintage rock textures slowly being funneled into the realm of rap since producers like Mike Dean started getting rappers hooked on prog rock (Yachty claims to be a Dark Side of the Moon head), the LP is truly a wild ride that works surprisingly well. It should be interesting to see where things go from here.

Check out the album below, along with the video for the soulful “sAy sOMETHINg”—and brace yourselves for the arrival of YachtyCoin.
