Fontaines D.C. are one of the most prominent new rock bands of the past few years, making their mark with last year's Skinty Fia and 2020's A Hero's Death. Today, the Dublin group's frontman Grian Chatten released his first solo single called "The Score" along with a video directed by Georgie Jesson.
The single is both eerie and calming, like if Elliott Smith collaborated with Radiohead. "When I make my move to you / You will know," he sings on the opening verse. "I will lay down / Like a shadow / Like a stain," he sings later, in complete control. Here, Chatten shows further dynamism in his vocals, straying from the impassioned howl or fortified sneer he showcases in Fontaines.
“‘The Score’ is a heavyweight bated breath of lust," Chatten explained. "I wrote it in Madrid between an electric fan and a dying plant and I intend to keep it there. It was inspired by sugar and sunset.”
