The new EP from London’s Moreish Idols only spans four tracks, but the art-punk outfit covers more ground on Lock Eyes and Collide than they have on any other release (well, they only have three EPs to their name at this point, but you get the idea). The group chalk this diversity in sound up to a more collaborative approach to songwriting wherein they “shed light on the strengths of each of [their] roles within the band with care and vulnerability,” per a recent press statement.

Perhaps more than on any other track, that sense of balance weathers the chaotic storm of their post-punk roots on “Green Light,” a four-minute ebb-and-flow of over-eager percussion and wailing sax which seems to share influences with the less hysterical corners of black midi’s discography. “This song is about being stuck at a crossroads and feeling your whole world come crashing down as you struggle to make a decision, longing for the green light that’ll allow you to move on,” the band shares of the track, noting the way in which the lyrics match the instrumental’s sense of indecisiveness.

Arriving with the track is a visualizer that sets the track on the cold, snowy streets of London, with grainy, nearly CCTV-like footage of cars passing in the night—calmly or frantically depending on what the soundtrack calls for.
