Two years ago, Griff Washburn gave us a candid look at the personal turmoil behind his blissful recordings as Goth Babe when he released his “Tides” short film—a 10-minute clip soundtracked by a reworked version of his hit single “Sometimes.” Today he’s not only returning with news of a follow-up short film entitled “Lola,” but also a debut album sharing the same name, which is taken from the sailboat he’s made his home since 2021. “There’s so much beauty in the world, obviously balanced by a lot of pain and suffering,” Washburn shared in a press release. “I would love if these songs allowed people, even just for a second, to escape the weight and heaviness of the world.”
Along with the short film trailer, Goth Babe is also sharing the first single from Lola—which is slated for a fall release via Mom+Pop Music. “Bioluminescence” is a familiar recreation of the project’s immersive chillwave sound established over nearly a dozen EPs dating back to 2015, creating a particularly entrance loop that extends for over five minutes.
