Last month, indie-pop duo Daisy the Great returned with a new single called “Looking U Up,” which followed last fall’s All You Need Is Time LP and set the scene for a forthcoming EP tentatively set to arrive later this summer. Before then, though, the pair returned to band member Mina Walker’s hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, to perform the track along with their other recent single “Glitter 2” at the city’s Music Box Village arts organization for a “Neighborhoods” set.
“We thought it would be really special to shoot the ‘Neighborhoods’ video [in New Orleans], not only because it’s Mina’s hometown, but also because we got to film at Music Box Village!” Walker’s bandmate Kelley Nicole Dugan shares, noting that the performance was recorded midway through their recent US tour. “Music Box Village is this awesome interactive art site/venue that is also basically a playground of musical instruments and musical sculptures. It was so beautiful and really matched the charm of New Orleans that we were hoping to be able to share with the video.”
Regarding the set list, Dugan continues: “The first song that we perform is ‘Looking U Up.’ It’s our newest single and it’s about dating in the age of social media and the addictive, all-consuming nature of having constant access to someone’s online presence. The second song we play is ‘Glitter 2,’ a reimagining of ‘Glitter,’ the lead single from our album. The song is about the chaos and beauty of staying up all night long and being alone with yourself. The original is more upbeat, but with ‘Glitter 2,’ we wanted to really lean into the emo sleepiness of the lyrics.”
