Future Islands have returned with a one-off single entitled “Deep in the Night.” The slow-burning ballad offers plenty of space for vocalist and bandleader Samuel T. Herring to showcase the realist poetry style he’s celebrated for. “I belong to you / I belong to you / When you take my hand, I understand / Where you end, and that’s where I began,” he sings.

The single arrives ahead of the band’s European and UK tour, as well as a headlining spot at the sold-out End of the Road Festival in Dorset and a supporting gig for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Primal Scream in Manchester. In other Future Islands–associated news, Herring is set to make his acting debut in the Apple TV series The Changeling alongside Lakeith Stanfield. The show premieres on September 8.

The powerful, romantic track arrives with an Albert Birney–directed video that honors the band’s beloved, intense live performances—check it out below, and view the band’s upcoming tour dates here.
