While the highlight from The National’s recently launched annual music event Homecoming Festival earlier this month—for those of us who weren’t in attendance, at least—was the reveal of another new National album, don’t let that distract from the equally exciting news that the event nearly coincided with a new EP from fellow performers Carriers. Arriving a week after Curt Kiser and his band took the stage in Cincinnati (not much of a “homecoming” for the Cinci native), the Blue EP features reworked versions of four previously released tracks—including “Patience,” the opening song from the project’s 2019 debut album Now Is The Time For Loving Me, Yourself & Everyone Else

On the new EP, this track gets touched up to run the gamut from the heartland-rock of The War on Drugs to the jangly tones of Real Estate, all while a backing band recreates the dense orchestral sound of The National (that band’s Bryan Devendorf actually plays on this version of “Patience,” while Kiser can be heard returning the favor on both National records released this year). It’s this track which the group are sharing a video for today that sees Kiser paying tribute to his Ohio hometown—moody weather and all—and the friends and family who will forever make it feel like home to him.
