Bloomsday—the project of New York–based musician Iris James Garrison—is announcing their new album Heart of the Artichoke today, along with sharing the release’s lead single, “Dollar Slice.” The jam kicks off with acoustic and electric guitars mingling while pedal steel moans in the background and snare drums crack beneath Garrison’s voice. The track takes a look at the unique shittiness that can be found in New York. “Fuck this city of people-pleasing,” Garrison sings. “I’m not religious,” Garrison says, “but I am into the idea of mystical, higher power—whatever that means—and that power seeing me, and my bullshit, and calling it out. That’s kind of godly to me.”
The track’s accompanying video, directed by Richard Orofino and Pearl Dickson, features Garrison traveling across the city making deliveries and encountering a number of different characters. Check out the visual below, and pre-order Heart of the Artichoke—which arrives June 7 via Bayonet—here.
