Ye ol’ Thom Yorke is always telling people not to “get him started.” It’s like the opposite of Mick Jagger, who once instructed people to “start” him “up,” or the Black Eyed Peas, who invited us to get “it” “started” after the NBA on ABC kindly asked them to change the song’s original lyrics for broadcast (don’t look that up). Thom, however, doesn’t like to be started. He hates it so much he even convinced one of his bands, The Smile, to name a song after how much he dislikes being got started.
On the newly released cut, warm synths play ping pong against one another for a while before Yorke’s affected, echo-heavy voice explodes into the fray. He sings: “I’m not the killer,” before throwing in his signature refrain for good measure. Do I even need to type it out? “Don’t get me started.”
“Don’t Get Me Started” first arrived as a very limited 12-inch release. The double A-side also includes another new song, “The Slip.” Get started listening to “Don’t Get Me Started” below.
