Wilder Maker—a band featuring Gabriel Birnbaum, Nick Jost, Sean Mullins, and Adam Brisbin—have announced that their new LP, The Streets Like Beds Still Warm, will arrive on September 19 via the estimable Western Vinyl. The first taste from the project—the first of three new LPs to be released by the band over the next 18 months—is out now in the form of the double single “Strange Meeting with Owls”/“Skewered by the Daystar.”

The former track is a slow-burning folk-pop cut that recalls a peaceful landscape like an empty beach on a summer day. “Skewered by the Daystar” is a more dizzying cut, built around the fractured remnants of a disintegrated horn line—its breathiness giving nearly tangible texture to the cut. The latter of the two tracks helps illustrate the album’s recording process, which was created through studio improvisations and then edited into songs.

Regarding ”Strange Meeting with Owls,” the band said: “Enough losers, what does it feel like to be a winner? To obliterate the defeated by moving your attention onward, leaving them in the dark? This song is totally transformed from the original studio improvisation—sampled and processed drum machine, percussion, vocals, a chord progression composed over the top, a field recording from a concert.”
