Brooklyn band Cuddle Magic have revealed that their new album Underwater is set to emerge from the bottom of the sea on September 19 via Egghunt Records. As an introduction the the collection, lead single “Hundred Million” begins with a simple plucked melody as Kristin Slipp sings about having a penny for every time the song’s subject smiles (she would be rich, indeed!). From there, the song moves into all sorts of unexpectedly wonderful places, with technicolor synths and shifting, tempo-agnostic drums leading the charge. The woodwinds and horns are particularly invigorating, too.

The track comes paired with a video directed by Haoyan of America, who’s previously worked with Wishy, Crumb, and Cautious Clay. “Relationships don’t ever really end—they continue to exist as uninvited specters, a melancholic residue trailing behind,” the band shares to set the scene for the visual. “In [the] video, Kristin is the ghost, descending upon and obliterating the people of her past. The video takes the song, a wistful, lush composition recorded totally live in a reverberant bathroom, and turns it on its head—the narrator isn’t wistful, she’s vengeful. She’s not disempowered—she’s a force, and she’s come to avenge the wrongs of the past.”
