Describing our current global reality as “strange” may be underselling the ugliness and downright evil that fuels a lot of that irregularity, but that seems to be the intended concept behind LA-based rapper and producer Dani Bojorges-Giraldo’s newly announced EP as St. Panther, Strange World. Rather than the doom-and-gloom messaging that’s becoming increasingly easy to adopt, Bojorges-Giraldo’s new batch of songs is steeped in a sense of realism while maintaining an upbeat pop-funk energy and an optimistic outlook for the future.
Today they’re sharing the lead single and title track from the collection, which effectively sets the mood for the five remaining tunes. “Strange World” directly addresses our quickly changing times by finding joy amid the madness with a tight-knit community of collaborators (including H.E.R. producer Chris McClenney, Little Dragon’s Erik Bodin, and this track’s guest vocalist Rae Khalil) with a mutual message driven by the sounds of modern soul. “Since the last time I put out a project, our world has only gotten stranger, which has only made my work more intentional,” the artist shares. “In this gap, I set out to write music about our world in the state it’s in now and imagine a future beyond it with some of my favorite people to talk about the world with.”
Regarding the relaxed attitude of the song’s recording process, they add: “You can hear us all in the studio together, laughing in between takes so often it bled into the actual recording, which we decided to keep because the spirit of that felt important. I truly believe that hope and joy can alter the state of anything, especially when the world feels most divided/needs healing. It’s all in the lyrics, I’m still rooting for us.”
Strange World is out November 7 on drink sum wtr. Check out the video for the title track below, and pre-order the EP here.
