YACHT.

Computes have given FLOODFest Chicago headliners YACHT a pretty good story to date. After all, the group’s binary funk is an all-digital challenge to the idea that a laptop can’t have soul. Still, in an age where mediocre smartphone reception is considered a major hassle, it’s hard not to agree with the title of YACHT’s newly announced LP, I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler. The LA duo have shared the disco-swept title track, which you can stream below.

Of course, YACHT have been doing their best to keep the present cool. I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler was announced via a dropped pin on Google Maps that led fans to a billboard with the album’s title on it. The track list was announced via BuzzFeed listicle, complete with band-made GIFs (“We chose to unveil it here on BuzzFeed because it’s 2015 and the album is dead, the novel is dead, but the GIF loops forever,” the band said). And, in a nice retro touch, the band sent 300 fans a copy of the album art via fax.

Give “I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler” a listen below, then keep reading for the album’s (GIF-free) track list.
