Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum has fully come into her own as Blondshell. The LA-based musician—whose career began with the more pop-oriented BAUM project—has announced her third album Violins will be released on September 25 via Partisan.
The announcement arrives alongside its title track. Grungy and moody, the song nods to the '90s while still feeling distinctly contemporary. It steadily builds both musically and emotionally before culminating in a wall of noise and raw feeling. The accompanying video only amplifies the song's tension and emotional weight, while also hinting at the duality that appears to sit at the heart of the record.
"This song sums up the album in a lot of ways," revealed Teitelbaum in the album announcement. "When I was writing I felt really drawn to images of patience and kindness, for example putting your head on someone’s shoulder, alongside images of violence. I was also inspired by the idea of healing slowly and refusing to be rushed by any outside force. Things genuinely just take the time they take. I’m not at a point in life where I can have a no assholes policy yet, but I like the idea of weeding out people that aren’t going to let me have limitations."
