Dinosaur Jr. have announced that their follow-up to 2021’s Sweep It Into Space will arrive on August 28 via Jagjaguwar. Ahead of There Near’s release, the band shared “Several Got Away,” the lead single from the new album. The track is a hard-charging, punk-leaning anthem full of scratchy guitars and yearning, impassioned vocals from J Mascis. Stay for Murph‘s drum fills.
“I’m not always sure what a song is ‘about’ when I’m writing it,” Mascis shared. “I guess the meaning will present itself at some point. I’ll use whatever words work. And a lot of it will be influenced by whatever esoteric mumbo jumbo I’m reading at the time. I try not to think too hard about any of it. I think it’s a drag that Spotify shows all the lyrics to a song. What’s the fun of that?” Good shit, J.
The group also shared new 2026 US tour dates with support from Stef Chura. Check out “Several Got Away” below, view the band‘s upcoming dates here, and pre-order There Near here.
