WATCH: Hide Your Bank Statements, Hide Your Loans in the Trailer for “The Big Short”

The star-packed adaptation of Michael Lewis’s 2010 best-seller is out on Christmas Day.

Best known as Will Ferrell’s comedic partner, writer/director Adam McKay is not exactly who you would expect to be at the helm of a star-studded drama about the recent financial collapse. Expectations can be damned, however, as that’s exactly what McKay is up to in the upcoming film The Big Short.

Based off of Moneyball writer Michael Lewis’s nonfiction account of the expansion and burst of the housing and credit bubble of the 2000s, the film has rounded up a cast of huge names (Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, and Melissa Leo, just to name a few) to play parts as brokers and money managers with their thumbs on the issue years ahead of everyone else. Seems like it might be just a tad bit different from Anchorman 2.
