Depending on how plugged into Austin’s heavy rock scene you’ve been over the past decade, Porcelain are a supergroup featuring members of Votive, Exhalants, US Weekly, and Pleasure Venom—a variety of noise rock, post-hardcore, and screamo bands that pretty succinctly sum up Porcelain’s whole deal. After releasing a promising debut album back in 2024 via Portrayal of Guilt’s label, the quartet will return in October with their debut for TODO Records. Today’s Minor Victories takes on lyrical themes that tend to be as heavy as their riffs, which often sound like they could’ve been recorded some time between Spiderland and Relationship of Command amid post-hardcore’s heyday.
The record’s second single, “Waltz,” is another slab of searing guitars and lyrical angst, its nearly Midwest-emo guitar noodling on the verses representing the silver lining inherent in its lyrics. “This song is about trying to relate with someone who is going through a depressive episode, to help them feel seen and that they’re not alone,” the band shares. “Depression can be isolating; it can consume you in a way that makes you feel unrelatable to everyone around you, that no one understands what you're going through. The truth is, you're not alone; we just need to reach out to each other and talk about it. Everything that we carry, everything we keep to ourselves, it all adds up. Don’t let it consume you to a place where you make a permanent solution to a temporary problem.”
Directed by Taylor Morgan, the track’s music video sees the band hitting a local skatepark where they connect with pro skater Ryan Thompson, who shows them a thing or two about gleaming the cube, assuming that phrase actually has anything to do with skating.
