Earlier this summer it was announced that two more volumes would follow 2025’s A-lister Neil Young tribute comp Heart of Gold, a benefit project funneling proceeds to Neil and Pegi Young’s The Bridge School. Following the release of King Princess’ version of “Helpless” and Draco Rosa’s interpretation of “After the Gold Rush,” today we’re getting two more samples from the cumulative 24-track set: My Morning Jacket taking on “Like a Hurricane” with Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Modest Mouse teaming up with Califone for a rendition of “Barstool Blues.”

“We were so honored to get to be at several of the Bridge School Benefit concerts in the past, and are so honored to once again be a part of raising funds for this amazing school, with these amazing songs of Neil Young,” shared MMJ’s Jim James. “We felt like teaming up with Preservation Hall Jazz Band would add some magic to this track, so we all got together with producer Ross Hogarth down in New Orleans and recorded it live at Marigny Studios.”

Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock echoed those feelings of gratitude, adding that it wasn’t a particularly easy task to select one song from Young’s robust discography. “I had initially chosen and started working on a cover of ‘Cortez the Killer’ before I realized that, in order to pull this off the way I’d like to, it was going to take me a thousand hours.” he explained. “Then it struck me: there is a song that I like just as much and find personally more relatable, ‘Barstool Blues.’ This was a song I could really sing my teeth into.”

Yet to come from the release are covers by Peter Frampton, Lucinda Williams, Tyler Ballgame, Jesse Malin, Briston Maroney, Ben Gibbard, MJ Lenderman, Cold War Kids, Kurt Vile, Devendra Banhart, and plenty more. You can check out both new covers below, and pre-order the both volumes ahead of their November 6 release here.
