LAIKA Studios has been a consistent source of family-friendly stop-motion filmmaking as far back as Coraline, which some have boldly hailed as the best animated film of the 21st century. Their latest movie, Wildwood, is adapted from the fantasy novel by The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy, released back in 2011. Given these ties to music, as well as its Portland setting, it makes sense that its release would coincide with a companion album featuring Meloy’s band and some of his Oregonian peers, including Portugal. The Man, Aminé, Still Woozy, quickly, quickly, and Saya Gray.
With today’s news of the project, we’re also getting a greenery-filled video for the second single (following quickly, quickly’s “That’s Enough for Me”) “Nature in Me,” which features a collaboration between emcees Bocha and Donte Thomas and producer Omari Jazz.
