The last time Jared Hess, filmmaker behind Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, released a movie was in 2009—the selectively popular but generally disliked Gentlemen Broncos. Since then, he’s made two movies, except only one of those is actually on track to be seen by the public. Masterminds, a heist comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, and Owen Wilson, was originally going to be in theaters this month (and was so close to release that trailers for it were already in place), but was pushed back indefinitely due to its production company going bankrupt. Frickin’ idiots!
Moving on, then, Hess happens to have another film lined up, this one called Don Verdean. It’s about a bogus Biblical archaeologist who searches for the Holy Grail of artifacts: the Holy Grail. The movie stars world-class dancer Sam Rockwell in the title role, with an excellent supporting cast beneath him, including Danny McBride, Jemaine Clement, Will Forte, and Amy Ryan.
Don Verdean is out December 11.
