Fresh off of the tidal wave of stinging criticism for his latest film Aloha, Cameron Crowe is back with Roadies, his first foray into the world of television. While the upcoming Showtime series finds the writer/director out of his comfort zone in terms of format, Crowe is returning to a creative well that hasn’t steered him wrong in the past—the music industry.
Following in the nostalgic footsteps of Almost Famous, Roadies will tell the unsung stories of guitar techs, lighting guys, and, well, roadies for real and fictionalized bands. The first season of the series, which stars Luke Wilson and Carla Gugino, will guest star artists doing their favorite thing in the world—playing themselves. The Eagles’ Joe Walsh and The Head and the Heart have already signed on to appear on the show.
