When he’s not shutting down ill-advised Say Anything remakes, Cameron Crowe is continuing to try and navigate this complicated world with one uplifting story of redemption and love at a time. After some not-so-great feedback from Sony’s (now) ex-president Amy Pascal, Crowe’s upcoming film Aloha just released its first trailer, and it actually doesn’t look half bad, but it does look like it’s going to make me cry. [Cue Bruce Springsteen’s “Secret Garden.”]

With an insanely stacked cast including Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, Alec Baldwin, and (the always-glorious) Bill Murray, Aloha follows the story of military defense contractor Brian Gilcrest (Cooper plays “Mr. Sexy Pants”) as he returns to Hawaii for work. While he’s good at his job and knows the area, Gilcrest doesn’t count on falling for his coworker (Stone) and reconnecting with his ex-girlfriend (McAdams). [Cue Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”]

From our first glimpse at Aloha, Crowe’s latest film shows great return to form for the director, especially after his unfortunate rut due to 2011’s We Bought a Zoo and 2005’s Elizabethtown. Two strong female leads, a boatload of Academy Award nominees, and Bill Murray as the wise, lovable sage? Count us in. [Cue Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.”]

Aloha is out May 29.
