Making its TV debut in 1974, Austin City Limits will be celebrating its forty-fifth season this year with an exciting slate of artists both new and old added to the influential PBS music program. Among the first seven announced for the show’s fourteen-episode schedule are recently returned art pop ensemble Vampire Weekend, songwriter (and champion of sustainability) Gary Clark Jr., and folk-pop icon Maggie Rogers.
To round out the schedule, Americana heavyweights and ACL regulars Steve Earle and Patty Griffin will make their fifth and sixth appearances on the program respectively, while buzzworthy newcomers like Canadian folkster Colter Wall and the Grammy-nominated R&B artist H.E.R. will make their ACL debuts. The show will also be debuting a new intro that features Austin natives Spoon’s track “Hot Thoughts.”
“Over the decades ACL has built its reputation on introducing the most original, innovative, and eclectic music from every genre,” executive producer Terry Lickona claimed in a press release that accompanied the news. “Music fans love to discover artists and sounds they’ve never heard before, or re-discover artists and songs that have stood the test of time. There’s no better place to find them than Austin City Limits, and this season is a perfect example!”
