We caught up with Cate Le Bon earlier this year to discuss her stellar new album, Reward, and her newfound passion for woodworking, shortly after hopping on the phone with Bradford Cox to chat about Deerhunter’s also-stellar new album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?, as well as, uh, the ingredients to the treats he buys his dog, Faulkner. These details alone speak to the depth of character both respective artists possess and devote to their individual music projects—and pique an undeniable interest in the type of music they’d cook up together.

Today the duo is announcing a new EP written and recorded in the week the two songwriters spent together in Marfa, Texas, at the Marfa Myths Festival where they first met in 2018. The fourth record in a series coordinated by the fest that pairs like-minded artists, the EP also features contributions from Le Bon’s DRINKS co-conspirator Tim Presley, Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, and more.

“Marfa is an extraordinary town,” Le Bon notes in a press release. “It feels like nothing else exists when you’re in it which is both comforting and unnerving. We committed ourselves to embracing the chaos, surrendering to all moments and moods that travelled through. It’s a crude holiday scrapbook shared by all involved, an amalgamation of the changes in mood and light that shaped the days.”

Listen to “Secretary,” the first single from the project pairing Le Bon’s lilting vocals with Cox’s workspace-numbed poetry and experimental instrumentation, below. You can expect Myths 004 on November 1 via Mexican Summer.
