Pixies fans in a handful of North American cities are going to get a pretty great holiday gift from the band in December. The alt-rock pioneers are plotting a run of intimate club dates to warm up for what’s being billed as a “major” tour in 2020.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, and Toronto will see Pixies playing small venues over the holiday month, none more personal than the pair of shows scheduled at LA’s Troubadour. With a capacity of just five hundred people, it’s by far the smallest gig on the tour.

The run of shows also finds the band taking a freeform approach to which songs they play each night. In lieu of a setlist, the group plans to cycle through a selection of ninety tunes from their discography—all of which they’ve rehearsed and can play at a moment’s notice. The sets will be different from night to night, with songs chosen right before they go onstage.
Tickets to all shows are going for $60, with news that the band is working with promoters to ensure tickets are not sold on secondary sites like StubHub. Whether or not resellers will be able to list them on such sites remains to be seen. If they are, the shows have the potential to end up like a recent Black Keys performance in Los Angeles, where hundreds of fans who purchased on secondary sites were turned away.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 27, at 1 p.m. EDT/10:00 a.m. PDT. See tour dates below.
