It’s only the fourth day of October but we’re so ready to be spooked. If clowns aren’t your thing, there’s an eerie new track from Dais Records’ newest signees, New York darkwave duo Tempers, out today that’s certain to do the trick, blending the pulsing synthwave beats of Ladytron with their label’s macabre post-punk aesthetic.

With their sophomore record Private Life hitting nearly four years to the day since their Aufnahme + Wiedergabe–released debut, “Guidance” posits the new album as a much smoother affair, as previously established with lead singles “Peace of Mind” and opener “Capital Pains.” At five minutes, “Guidance” is the type of track that builds almost imperceptibly from a minimalist synthpop number to an all-out existential darkwave banger.

“‘Guidance’ is about the idea of having a spirit you can call on, and be created by, when you want to go beyond yourself,” the duo—comprised of Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper—share. “We wanted to work that spirit into the song’s relentless drive—the humanity of the lyrics woven within the layers of evolving, shifting electronics.”

Private Life is out October 25 on Dais Records. You can pre-order it here.
