It’s been well over a year now since we lost affable Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller, who passed away shortly after releasing the most critically well-received record of his career back in the fall of 2018. Swimming was one of the many great albums we’ve heard over the past few years with tough subject matter only becoming tougher in the context of the songwriter’s death surrounding the release date, the lonely (though ironically guest-heavy) tracks all taking on new meaning after Mac’s passing.

With work on Swimming complete, though, Miller was already a ways into recording his follow up with many-hats-wearing producer Jon Brion, which today we’re learning will see the light of day next week. In a text post shared on Miller’s official Instagram page, his family announced that Circles will be out soon thanks to the continued dedication of Brion to finalize Miller’s vision to the best of his ability. “After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcolm,” the post reads. “We are eternally grateful to Jon and to those who gave their best to the difficult and emotional task of putting out this body of work.”
