We’re a week away from the release date for Aaron Maine’s latest LP as Porches, which has evolved from a lo-fi indietronic project to an art-pop moniker worthy of Domino Records. But before he get to hear Ricky Music in full, Maine is teasing the project with one more melancholic single, “Patience,” which blossoms from a downcast ballad into an explosion of wobbling synths in the final moments. “Patience feels like holding hands jumping out of a tree, and all you can do is laugh at the mess you’ve gotten yourselves into, while the two of you spiral towards the grass in a beautiful sunset,” Maine shared, very poetically, in a press release for the song.
To get the full emotional experience, hear it soundtrack the video below, in which Maine reluctantly returns to a high school auditorium where he all-too-familiarly gets pelted with balls after performing an interpretive dance wherein he gives birth to a basketball (well, maybe we didn’t all suffer this very specific form of humiliation as teenagers, but the off-white gymnatorium is certainly triggering).
