Black Music Month will be in full swing this Saturday, June 27, with Black Power Live, a charity live stream featuring music and conversation from Black creators. Set for 5 p.m. Pacific on Twitch, the event will be hosted by Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, and billed in a press statement as “a celebration of the incredible work done by organizers and activists around the world, and “a chance to reflect, regroup, and talk about next steps.”
The musical performances slated for the show include “Racism on Trial,” a new piece from Terrace Martin that will showcase a group featuring Kamasi Washington, Denzel Curry, Robert Glasper, G Perico, and more. It’s the same collection of artists who appear on Martin’s recent track, “Pig Feet,” as well as his new project announced earlier today, Dinner Party. Other acts slated to appear include Vagabon, The Brandon Brown Collective (featuring Blood Orange, a.k.a. Dev Hynes), Jessie Reyez, Stevie Wonder’s live band, Twin Shadow, Miguel, Aloe Blacc, and Pink Sweats.
Beneficiaries of the money raised by Black Power Live are Crenshaw Dairy Mart, Sankofa Transgender Law Center, Black Men Build, and Trap Heals. Writer dream hampton, Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez, and actress Gina Belafonte are among the speakers to appear on the show. Get more details here.
