After putting in time with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and that group’s chiptune offshoot The Depreciation Guild among other projects, brothers Anton and Christoph Hoccheim set off on their own with an EP as Ablebody back in 2013, which preceded their debut full-length three years later. After a name change—the duo now perform as Always You—the Hochheims are back today to announce their latest endeavor, the Bloom Off the Rose LP, which arrives July 16 via Shelflife and Discos de Kirlian.
The first single from the record also arrives today with the late-night groove of “Black City Nights” landing somewhere between the epic glam of HMLTD and the latest, funk-pop iteration of Nick Diamonds’ Islands outfit. “‘Black City Nights’ is a song for the disheveled and defeated, a vivid depiction of long sleepless nights, chasing ghosts of one’s past and future, lost bets, and blind optimism that the next big break is just around the corner,” Christoph shares. “It’s about loneliness and what people do to escape it, as well as the hopefulness that keeps us pushing through.”
The single also comes with a visual that explores these themes with the all-too-relatable story of a white-collar worker moonlighting as a clown. Watch it below, and pre-order the new record here.
