It seems hard to imagine that a staple of eighteenth-century classical music—the harpsichord—would end up being a key player in the psychedelic movement of the 1960s, but if you’ve ever heard Ray Davies or Rod Argent have their way with the instrument, it’s kind of hard to imagine it being better-used anywhere else.
Jacco Gardner knows all about that, and even though the harpsichord has fallen by the wayside in more modern times, the Dutch baroque pop experimentalist featured it heavily on his 2013 debut, Cabinet of Curiosities.
The curiosities continued today with the release of the single “Find Yourself,” a wonderfully hypnotic journey into Gardner’s mind—a place where the titular question doesn’t seem to be figurative so much as it’s just straightly literal: Do you know where you are right now, Jacco?
Regardless, you can at least know where to find him on May 5 when his second album Hypnophobia comes out on Polyvinyl Records, and performing in the U.S. throughout March (including Burgerama and our very own FLOODfest at SXSW). Check out all the information on that below.
