Earlier this year, SoCal rockers SadGirl returned with the lovelorn country-western ballad “Goodbye Queenie,” a track that veered from their surfier roots yet remained firmly rooted in the aesthetic of the 1970s. It was a uniquely personal song, according to vocalist Misha Lindes, “a very candid goodbye to a very, very important person and part of my life. It came about mostly as a personal cathartic exercise, but I feel it needs to be shared now.”

A bit less serious, then, is the track’s new visual, which sees Lindes dropped into the anachronistic SadGirl universe. The combination of the music video’s grainy texture and its narrative of a down-on-his-luck gambler and alcoholic recalls the early films of Robert Altman with a fairly unexpected cameo from the Star Trek makeup department. Also, keep an eye out for actual appearances from Earth’s (the band, but I guess also the planet) Dylan Carlson and filmmaker Gilbert Trejo, son of Danny.

Additionally, the band will be celebrating the release of the video tonight with a live performance/music video retrospective which, unfortunately, has already sold out. The good news is that it’ll be followed by a slew of additional dates, which you can peruse below.
