The two-parts-Madrid, one-part-Brooklyn three-piece Gold Lake have given Father John Misty‘s synthpop gem “True Affection” a new treatment with a vintage-flavored, ethereal cover. An organ-powered drum machine and the smooth, delicate vocal layering of frontwoman Lua Rios give a fresh take to the I Love You, Honeybear standout.

Of the cover, Gold Lake says, “When we were mixing our album with Phil [Ek], he’d recently finished mixing Father John Misty’s Fear Fun at the same studio we were working at, and we loved it. We have many great memories of our experience in Seattle during the mixing of our album and in a way the songs of Fear Fun are closely tied to those memories too. So when I Love you, Honeybear came out we quickly listened to it and loved it! The day after hearing it for the first time, Carlos turned on our 60s Farfisa Organ and he switched on the vintage drum machine inside it. He recorded it onto our laptop and we started jamming ‘True Affection’ to the rhythm he’d recorded. We did it in one take. All good memories in the end!”

Gold Lake’s debut album Years is out now.
