Dead Oceans is unquestionably killing it lately, with the Secretly Group label being responsible for a handful of the top releases from the past few years courtesy of Japanese Breakfast, Phoebe Bridgers, Kevin Morby, Shame, and Khruangbin. With the recent return of Mitski, 2022 was already looking promising for the label, but today they’ve doubled down on that bright future with news of a Toro y Moi signing and the promise of new music from Chaz Bear’s long-running and shapeshifting project in the coming year.

“I’m excited to begin this next chapter with Secretly/Dead Oceans!” he shares. “Throughout the years they’ve continually maintained a conscious eye on the state of independent music and are pushing the boundaries of popular music. Thanks again to all my fans and supporters in making it this far with my music, your love and time is appreciated!”

“Chaz has been both a pal and a hero to several of us here for coming right up on 12 years,” DO’s EO Deines adds. “In both his production and visual choices, he always seems to be just around the curve—and he finally let us hitch a ride. His fingerprint on culture is undeniable. Pleased as punch and tickled pink to finally be in proper cahoots with this icon for whatever’s next.”

Expect more from Bear soon.
