A month from today, Dream, Ivory, the duo of brothers Christian and Louie Baello, will release their debut album About a Boy. Their pre-album single “Tastes Like Candy” presented the release as a unique take on hyperpop, with elements of early-’00s pop and pop-punk merging with impossibly catchy hooks and a bright visual depicting the music’s tasteful sensory overload. Yet their latest single “Would It Kill You at All” sees the brothers heading in a darker direction both musically and thematically.

“‘Would It Kill You at All’ is definitely one of our most diverse songs on the new album,” the duo shares of the synth-driven track. “It was especially fun to experiment with synths to create a really intense ARP progression that goes well with the more serious theme of the song. The song in general is really self-reflective and touches on the negative feelings one could feel towards one’s self.”

This time mirroring the song’s surreal harmonies and glitched-out production occasionally recalling Linkin Park, the new single’s visual component—directed by Graham Epstein, who also helmed “Candy”—is a colorful, distorted, and overall disorienting series of images of the band walking through liminal space. “When thinking of ideas for a music video, we ultimately decided a one-take sort of video would demonstrate the intensity of the song the most accurate,” they add.
