As hinted at with the recent release of their single “Boys,” Psymon Spine are returning next month with a new album titled Head Body Connector, which will precede the Brooklyn alt-dance outfit’s appearance at SXSW. In fact, as vocalist Noah Prebish tells it, the record was written primarily with their live show in mind. “It’s more unhinged than anything we’ve made before,” Prebish promises. “Throughout the writing process, we were always asking ourselves how we could make it really fun to play live.”
The second single from the release also arrives today, with “Wizard Acid” pairing a tight, funky nu-disco instrumental with lyrics about coming apart at the seams. “‘Wizard Acid’ is part allegory, part nonsense, encapsulating elements of cabin fever, dread, and humor,” the band explains. “We melded one of [Brother] Michael’s early demos with one of Peter [Spear]’s, creating one unholy coupling which eventually took the form of a shapeshifting disco jam. It sat instrumental for a couple months until Peter sent over some lyrics detailing a narrator slowly consumed by their sentient house, or perhaps losing their mind (maybe both?).”
