Fuck Money
Fuck Money
THREE ONE G
Fuck Money have two releases thus far and they’re both self-titled—and with that alone you can probably guess what their guiding ethos is. You immediately get the anti-capitalist edge from their name, but doubling (and now tripling) down ensures you’re beaten over the head with it. “Fuck Money is not just a band—it’s a confrontation” reads the promo materials shared by their label, Three One G Records, run by The Locust’s Justin Pearson. Enough said.
Sonically nestled somewhere between clipping.’s piano pyrotechnics and Chernobyl’s Elephant’s Foot, Fuck Money is a 22-minute riot. Produced by Death From Above 1979’s Jesse F. Keeler, the LP begins with an ominous hum on opener “Chapter 5” before vocalist TaSzlin Trébuchet screams out across a sprawling, noise-addled atmosphere. Alton Jenkins’ drum count backing it all isn’t unlike disaster sirens—your fight-or-flight response starts to kick in. By the time you’ve figured out where the nearest exit is (or begin shadowboxing exercises), it’s too late. The Fuck Money hurricane has arrived.
The next 20 minutes are filled with a cataclysm of hardcore punk and harsh noise that distills their anti-capitalist ethos. “Addicted to Reddit”—whose previous rendition tacked “and Other Modern Ailments” onto the end of its title—subverts the AI-obsessed landscape and tackles screen addiction and the social ineptitude it’s created worldwide. “Dead Man” turns its sights to the ruling class who readily sacrifice anyone they can to increase profit margins. As Jenkins recently shared with us, “that [chaotic] energy is steeped in our existential and sociopolitical realities.”
Leading with distortion and chaos, Fuck Money have blown the industrial hardcore doors wide open. These tracks will not be played live, according to the band, which is equal parts a damn shame and exactly as it should be. Fuck Money splits the atom, and doing that live is entirely too much focused energy for anyone to survive. If there ever was a performance, though, it’d be the best fucking show of those damned souls’ lives.
