Given that NYC trio Bec Lauder and the Noise found their legs while gigging relentlessly around NYC over the course of a year leading up to the creation of their debut album, it’s no wonder that The Vessel is full of diverse sounds inspired by different scenes within their city. “Moving to New York has been the most beautiful journey,” the project’s frontperson Lauder explains. “I really found myself as an artist, particularly through the culture of jamming, the community of the rock scene, and the freedom I feel here. The city is so many things to me, I use that refrain as a vessel to compare it all.”
As an homage to New York, the final single the band is sharing ahead of tomorrow’s release day celebrates this creative hotbed—flaws and all. “Tease Me” opens as a near-ambient ballad spotlighting Lauder’s vocals as the backing band slowly joins in. When the chorus hits, the tracks blows wide open with a soaring refrain and Lauder’s backing band living up to its name. “The song really just fell out of me as a ‘quiet banger.’ At first, I actually didn’t love the song because it wasn’t the most upbeat song ever and was quite confused by how much all of my friends and family loved the song. It’s slowly become one of my favorites on the album, which is full of many different types of songs.”
The song’s Kayla Hogan–directed video features Lauder singing the tune in a single take as she ventures down an empty street at night. “The song was really inspired by all of the different ways that the city is,” Lauder adds. “The song is full of my commentary on ‘the city,’ my home in NYC—the good, the bad, and the in-between with a beautiful conclusion of ‘Whatever, let’s just dance.’”
