Sub*T is a project that has quite literally been coming together slowly over the past five years, as bandmates Jade Alcantara and Grace Bennett convened in NYC after establishing their band from opposite corners of the country. A series of singles has trickled out since 2021 that established the duo as students of Sonic Youth and Liz Phair, culminating in a 2024 EP and supporting spots for Hinds and Bully on tour. Now that they’ve made their voices heard, Alacantara and Bennett are officially announcing that their debut full-length, How My Own Voice Sounds, will drop this spring.

Ahead of the release, the duo are sharing the lead single and the album’s opening track, “Overcomplicate,” a perfect grunge-pop distillation of those aforementioned reference points and tour mates. “We see ‘Overcomplicate’ as the two sides of yourself talking to one another,” the duo shares of track, which is ironically breezily straightforward. “There’s a second whispered vocal layer in the bridge, which we feel represents the negative voice in someone's head–the cynical one that you need to fight against.”
