A month ago, Mike D surprised us with the first new material from a member of the Beastie Boys in 15 years with “Switch Up,” a track he’d released in the wake of a string of solo performances backed by his sons’ band Very Nice Person. Now we’re learning that it was the first single from the emcee’s debut solo album titled Thank You which arrives on August 28 via Capitol Records. Arriving alongside second single “True Colors” are more details on the release, which appears to be a heavily collaborative affair that includes contributions from a team of all-star producers including Carter Lang, Jared Solomon (a.k.a. Solomonophonic), Ging, and Tyran Donaldson.

"It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration,” the artist shared in a press statement. “And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”
