LA-based songwriter ggwendolyn is announcing her debut album Superstar Syndrome today, though it’s far from her first rodeo. She released singles and EPs under the wens moniker for six years as her ghostwriting career took off, ultimately penning songs for superstars including FLETCHER, AlunaGeorge, and even Chappell Roan (the latter’s hit “Red Wine Supernova” even featuring backing vocals from ggwendolyn). Last year, she turned the spotlight back onto herself with her first full-length collection of tunes, the trilogies mixtape, which will soon be followed by a proper album wherein she uses her prior output as something of a springboard for a more mature pop sound.

Following the release of “Jock My Style” and “Crisscross Way” earlier this year, today she’s sharing the album’s title track, a modernized take on the era of radio-ready pop music dominated by Sheryl Crow and Michelle Branch. “I wrote the song after the record was done and it felt like the final piece to the puzzle I never knew was missing,” she explains. “[It’s a] declaration of sorts: no matter what I decide, whether I quit or persevere, I will always have this vision for my life.”

The track comes paired with a music video directed by Madeline Leary that sees ggwendolyn stacking up her street cred against that of heavy hitters within LA’s wig and jewelry scene, respectively. Check it out below, and expect Superstar Syndrome to arrive in full on July 31 via Distrokid.
